1880 - The First Boer War

Once the Zulus were defeated, the Boers no longer needed the British to protect them and so instead fought to become independent from them, leading to the First Boer War. The 3-month war resulted in a Boer victory, a negotiated peace agreement, and the South African Republic’s eventual independence.
