1943 - Black opposition - ANC Youth League

While white South Africa was cementing its power, black opposition politics were evolving. In 1943, a younger, more determined political group formed, the ANC Youth League, which helped develop prominent members Oliver Tambo, Nelson Mandela and Walter Sisulu, who later became senior ANC leaders. Encouraged by these young men, the ANC became more militant, particularly after 1948 when the National Party was voted into power and began implementing strict apartheid measures.
